I feel bad for being absent. Aww…

So um… I have been a bit m.i.a. lately, as far as the blog world goes.  Not that anyone really reads my blog, but I still feel bad.  It’s like crocheting, I get into it, then I have a bad day and all of the sudden BAM – no more hobbies.  Not the case with this, mon frer!  I have many things to talk about and more time than ever to yammer my big old head off about such sundries.  Well, I guess get to it!

I finally called Paul G. about tennis… effin AWESOME!  Found out that I can tennis it up on the weekends, he has clinics on Saturday mornings.  I also found out that Sarah likes to play, and that her mom was this insanely good tennis champ back in the day.  I was telling Sarah that playing tennis reminds me of Andy and how much he loved to play, how just being on a court would make him smile and how patient and sweet he was when he was teaching me to play.  It’ll be nice to start a new skill, stay active, and honor his memory.  Life is messy, but so beautiful.

The 8k is on Thursday…!  We ran 3 miles in a row last week, so that’s good, but not quite where we need to be.  Today we’re running, I think I’m going to try for the Park Road extension up to Quail Corners, but that’s a little over 3 miles and we might not have time.  I have to meet with Nicole tonight at 6:45 p.m.   I need more hours in the day!  Plus, I laid in the bed yesterday all sickpants, so I don’t want to push TOO hard and get illin again.

Oh, BTW – I am going to be a barista!  Pete hired me on at the DHC at Quail Corners, snapsnap!  I start tomorrow.  Brad’s training me.  Should be terrific fun and nonsensities.  Hurray!

Ooh, and I got a phone!  Mel, who is pretty much Buddha but with material stuff, gave me his ex’s old phone… sweet!  He just put unlimited text on it too, so that I can harass people text sylie – niiiiice… oh oh oh, and it’s a KATANA!  Snap snap!  That’s the phone Jamie used to have, and every time she’d get it out I’d be like “katana!  *sword noise*”  So good times.  :)

So, lots of stuff going on.  Mama is coming to visit me, YAY!  She’ll be here from Dec. 14th through to Dec 25th, and I am seriously excited.  I still have to tell B.J. that I’m going to Tate’s for Thanksgiving, but I’m pretty sure that’ll go alright.  What else?

OH!  I completely forgot my concert adventure with Sarah and Tate!  We went to see The New Familiars on Friday night, and Sarah forgot her i.d. so we had to hightail it back to her end of town, snag it up, and then motor back to the show but it was SO MUCH FUN!  Such a good band, so many good vibes… all around goodness.  Then I spent the night with Tate, and we did crossfit the next day which beat me into submission but whatevs because it’s all an adventure, right?  Plus, I am fully a Goonie and Goonies never say die!

I am a fan of Ian Frazier, and he is a fan of a little known art form – the LIST.  Lists are probably the most universal literary medium that exists.   No matter who you are or what you do, you’ve made a list before.  I love to read people’s lists, especially lists from years ago. It’s a trip to look at things that were so important they had to be written down to remember.  My list is going to be a Things that are Lovely list… with pictures!

WTF is going on with my body?  It’s breaking on me!  I had a migraine for the first time this year, plus bronchitis, plus that wretched cold that turned into some weird form of asthma… it’s all quite boo.  The MOST boo, however, had to be the past 48 hours.  I have a UTI – urinary tract infection, for those not in the know.  I wouldn’t wish this pain on anyone, ever.  If I had multiple UTIs, I’d kill myself, I really think I would.  This is yet another reason why I’d be a bad pioneer!  If I got a UTI while on the Oregon Trail, with no bactrim to kill it off, or cranberry juice, or Uracalm (Uracalm?  Imadistressed!  haha, lame!) I would commit homicide, then suicide.  Or maybe just suicide, I don’t know.

At any rate, I was diagnosed with a LARGE bladder infection yesterday at my clinic.  The doc said LARGE with such emphasis, I almost laughed, but felt too much shame.  Why is my bladder infection so large?  That’s not fair.  My bladder can’t be much bigger than the average 24 year old girl’s, right?  But anyway, she gave me some antibiotics and told me to drink lotsa water and sent me on my way.

Not two hours later, I was in agony.  SERIOUSLY.  This is not an exaggeration, I had two full grown men trying to persuade me to go to the ER… granted, one was my boyfriend and the other was my roommate, but still!  I refused to go.  Fuck the ER, I said.  Oh hey, BTW, here’s what a bladder infection looks like:

cystitisYum!

So there I was, full of bladder infection and writhing around in pain, and refusing emergency services.  I called the 24 hour nurse line, and she said to put a heating pad on my back to see if it helped (cause they thought I had a kidney infection at this point), and I told her I didn’t have one, so she told me to take a bath… and thank GOD for baths!  My whole back finally relaxed, and I fell asleep, and when I woke up it was like being a new woman.

In short, UTIs are from the devil and I will never get one again.  If I do, I quit.

Daylight savings is baloney.

November 4, 2008 at 6:01 pm | In Uncategorized | 1 Comment

How many of us really know what the deal with daylight savings time is?  I didn’t know jack about how DST came about or anything, all I know is that Eric was an hour early to the field for our softball tourney and was wicked mad that none of us had told him that it was daylight savings that night.  To be honest, if it weren’t for my cell phone automatically updating during daylight savigs I would’ve been toast too.   So, I decided to wikipedia daylight savings to learn why we have such a phenom in our lives… come to find out there’s a LOT behind the whole DST concept.  There are parts of the world that give DST the finger.  The whole reason why DST even exists to to give workers more daylight in which to toil.  Well, not the whole reason, but still… oh, also found out that the national golf association (NGA?) would increase their revenues by 100 billion dollars if daylight savings lasted just 7 weeks longer than it does.  Crazy gravy.  Plus, Tiga-tiga Woods y’all!

But whatever, if you really want to learn about daylight savings time and its origins and impacts then you can wikipedia that on your own time because NOW it is time for team TOTAL ANNIHILATION PICTURES!!! RRRAWWWWRRRR!!!  Hahahaha, yes!  Here’s some pictures of the team that almost took the championship in their inagural year of existence -
